Library and Museum Assistant – Customer Experience (Fixed Term to December 2026)
$67,004 – $81,186 pro rata per annum Superannuation
Part Time 60.5 hours per fortnight

About the role
Reporting to the Team Leader - Programs, you will assist in the planning, development and delivery of a wide range of library and museum programs, including early childhood literacy sessions, youth and adult activities and outreach.
This role also undertakes regular customer service shifts where you will assist with customer enquiries ensuring visitors receive friendly, accurate and efficient support, maintain high presentation standards across library materials, retail stock and public spaces and provide basic technology troubleshooting.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality community focused customer service. Communicating confidently with a wide range of people, including young adults.
- Carry out circulation duties, including user registrations, loans,
returns and shelving of library and museum materials and undertake research for users of the library and museum service as required.
- Apply sound research, written communication and administrative skills to assist with the planning and delivery of Library and Museum programs.
- Use initiative and sound judgement to solve problems, work independently and contribute effectively as part of a team.
About you
You will bring a passion creating memorable experiences for the community alongside excellent communication skills. You are someone who can work independently but enjoys working collaboratively to achieve goals. You’re highly organised, detail-oriented, and experienced in administrative tasks—ideally within a library or museum setting.
Essential
- Demonstrated sound interpersonal, conflict resolution and negotiation skills with the ability to communicate with a wide range of people and groups, in particular young adults, to ensure delivery of a high level of customer service.
- Previous relevant experience working within a library or similar customer service environment.
- Sound research and written communication skills.
- Good data entry and numeracy skills, with the ability to apply attention to detail and complete tasks with a high level of accuracy.
- Proven ability to utilise personal computer applications, in particular the Microsoft Office suite of products (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook),
including the ability to use a computerised Library Management System and Point of Sale (POS) systems.
- Ability to work effectively both as a member of a team and autonomously, under minimal supervision, as required.
- Proven organisational and administrative skills preferably within a Library or Museum environment.
- Local Government or public sector experience is desirable.
