Field Service Electronics Technician

Hands-on field and factory role servicing QLD's smart transport signage. Vehicle, tools and phone provided. Yatala-based.

Why this role is different

You won't be stuck in a ceiling or a workshop all day. One week you're diagnosing a comms fault on a passenger information display at a rail station, the next you're servicing a speed sign on a council road, then back at Yatala helping with a factory build. Real variety, real fault-finding, and your work keeps the state's transport network running every day.

What you'll actually be doing

- Installing and commissioning passenger information displays (PIDs), vehicle activated signs (VAS), PA systems and related gear on live sites across SEQ
- Servicing, fault-finding and repairing electronic signage and control systems
- Mix of field work and factory days at Yatala (assembly, QA testing, build support), so it is never monotonous
- Keeping service records and reports up to date
- Overnight regional trips (accommodation covered) with LAA

Electronics technicians

Direct fit. Digital and analogue fault-finding, board-level work, test gear.

Telecoms / comms techs

(NBN, Telstra, Optus, Service Stream)

You already know cable pulling, fault-finding, IP networking, field diagnostics, ladders and EWPs. Easy transition.

Security / alarm techs

Low voltage DC,



comms cabling, head-end programming, commissioning, site work. Very transferable.

Auto electricians

12V and 24V DC work, diagnostics, crimping and terminations. Strong fit for VAS and PID install work.

AV / integration techs↓

Rack work, cabling, commissioning, networking. You will pick this up fast.

Electricians

(low voltage or signage background)

Restricted electrical licence is a bonus. Variety and field work.

What you'll need

- Certificate III or higher in Electronics, Telecommunications, Security, Instrumentation, Auto Electrical, or equivalent trade
- Solid hands-on experience with electronic gear and fault-finding
- Confident with multimeters, hand tools and test equipment
- Good with a laptop (Windows, Outlook, logging service reports)
- Safety-focused, organised and a good communicator
- Current QLD driver's licence

Nice to have (not dealbreakers)

- White Card, EWP, Forklift, RIW, First Aid
- Medium Rigid (MR) licence
- Restricted electrical licence
- QA or OHS exposure
- Experience on council, rail or road infrastructure sites
