Seasonal employment opportunities have become available for the 2026 cane crushing season at Mackay Sugar. The season is expected to run from early June 2026, will end approximately December 2026.

Cane Transport – Rail Operation Positions

- Locomotive Driver’s Assistant

Reporting to the Transport Supervisor, our Locomotive Drivers Assistant, in association with the driver, is responsible for the safe and efficient operations of cane trains in order to satisfy customer requirements (Empty and Full deliveries on time and in full).

- Adequate mechanical aptitude, literacy, and numeracy skills.
- A current and valid Australian Driver’s License.
- Hold Full Working Rights within Australia
- Have the ability and willingness to work shift work - we are a 24/7 operation
- An adequate level of physical fitness, such as mounting/dismounting locomotives, lifting and carrying objects, climbing stairs and ladders.
- Availability for full duration of crushing season.
