- Oversight of waste collection services, processing, disposal contracts and the waste transfer station.
- Strong governance, risk, safety and compliance across all operations.

Leadership that matters

This role is about more than technical expertise. You’ll be a visible, trusted leader who:

- Champions a Culture of Care, prioritising health, safety and wellbeing.
- Works collaboratively across the organisation to deliver shared outcomes.
- Partners with the community, industry and other agencies to inspire sustainable action.
- Models flexible,

people‑centred leadership while driving performance and accountability.

Safety

The award‑winning Culture of Care is the operating name for our workplace health and safety philosophy. For us, safety is our way of working. We work safely because we genuinely care – we care for ourselves, for each other, for our community, for the environment and for the plant and equipment we use.

What you’ll bring to the role

- A tertiary qualification in Business, Sustainability, Environmental Management, Project Management or a related discipline (or substantial equivalent experience).
- Proven experience leading complex projects and managing contracts.
- Solid knowledge of environmental, waste and contaminated sites legislation.
- Exceptional people leadership skills and the ability to lead through change.
- High‑level conceptual thinking, problem solving and negotiation capability.
- Well‑developed written and verbal communication skills, including briefing at executive and Council level.
- Financial acumen and experience managing budgets and performance.
- A current National Police Clearance and Class C Driver’s Licence.
- Experience in contaminated sites management and delivering innovative recycling or resource recovery initiatives will be highly regarded.

Benefits

- Maximum term (5‑year) full‑time contract.
- 10 days of executive leave each year in addition to other leave entitlements.
- The option to supercharge your superannuation through superannuation matching.
- Free gym and pool membership at both Cannington and Riverton Leisureplexes.
- Genuine investment in your development.
- A vibrant wellbeing program to support you to thrive.

The City of Canning is a child‑safe organisation and reserves the right to request the relevant working with children qualification from prospective candidates where required.
