Mackay Regional Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Supervisor Arboriculture to lead the delivery of high-quality arboriculture services across the region.

This hands‑on leadership role is ideal for an arboriculture professional who enjoys balancing people leadership with operational delivery in a dynamic outdoor environment.

Reporting to the Coordinator Regional Services, you will be responsible for the completion of scheduled and reactive arboriculture maintenance activities and programs. Working under general direction, you will lead and manage the Arboriculture team while providing technical advice and ensuring works are delivered in line with agreed service levels, safety standards and community expectations.

You’ll play a key role in planning and scheduling works, delivering minor projects, contributing to budgets, and fostering a positive, safety‑focused team culture.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead, manage and motivate the Arboriculture team, including day‑to‑day operations and performance.
- Plan, schedule and deliver programmed and reactive arboriculture maintenance activities.
- Plan, coordinate and deliver minor arboriculture projects.
- Ensure all works are delivered efficiently and in accordance with service level agreements and standards.
- Contribute to the development and management of operational budgets.
- Actively participate in reviewing and improving operational processes.
- Promote and maintain a safe, healthy and positive workplace culture, including WH&S;, wellbeing and psychological safety.
- Provide technical arboriculture advice to internal and external stakeholders.

About You

Essential Qualifications & Licences

- Qualification in Arboriculture or related field (minimum Diploma).




- Current QLD ‘C’ Class Driver Licence (or ability to transfer within 3 months).
- General Construction Induction (White Card).
- Medium Rigid (MR) Licence.
- Elevating Work Platform (EWP) High Risk Licence.
- Ability to undertake a pre‑employment medical with drug & alcohol screening.

Desirable

- ACDC Weed Spraying Licence.
- Certificate IV or higher in Business Management, Leadership or a related field.

Essential Experience

- Experience leading and managing a team.
- Practical experience in planning, scheduling and delivering scheduled maintenance activities.
- Practical experience in planning, scheduling and delivering minor projects.
- Experience fostering positive working relationships with staff and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated commitment to workplace health and safety, industrial health and hygiene, psychological safety and wellbeing.
- Experience working in a similar arboriculture or operational workplace.

Skills & Knowledge

- Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Well‑developed planning, coordination and time‑management abilities.
- Sound problem‑solving and conflict‑resolution skills.
- Well‑developed computer skills, including use of corporate systems and Microsoft Office.
- Working knowledge of arboriculture and horticulture practices, including relevant legislation and Australian Standards.
- Ability to safely operate and maintain a range of plant and equipment.

Special Requirements

- Participation in an on‑call roster.




- Regular local travel.
- Availability to participate in emergency management response activities when required.
