We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Teacher of the Deaf to join our inclusive and vibrant primary school community in Ringwood East. Our school proudly hosts a Deaf Facility, supporting a group of wonderful deaf and hard of hearing students in integrated classroom settings.

Eastwood Primary School and Deaf Facility, in partnership with its community, seeks to optimise the potential of each individual and promote a friendly, protected and healthy school environment. We aim to extend knowledge, challenge thinking, provide choice and ignite passions. The Facility for Deaf/Hearing Impaired students, services the surrounding districts. Deaf students are integrated with additional support provided by Teachers of the Deaf.

The School was opened in 1953 in quiet surroundings in Ringwood East in the City of Maroondah. The 554 students are mostly from the local area with the Facility for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students servicing the surrounding districts. 2014 was the completion of stage 1 of a full rebuild of the school and 2016 saw the completion of stage 2, delivering state of the art, contemporary, open learning spaces in three interconnected learning pods.

teaching practice and curriculum planning begin with the understanding that all students can learn and succeed.

Integrating deaf and hard of hearing students into classes with hearing peers and supported by Teacher of the Deaf

Providing specialist programs in Performing Arts, Physical Education, Visual Arts and LOTE ¿ Auslan

Communicating student learning to parents using three-way conferences, portfolios, two written reports and student support meetings

n

Integrating ICT across the curriculum using a variety of interactive devices

n

1:1 tablet program that is currently being rolled out across the school

At Eastwood we have a clearly articulated Student Wellbeing practice which is documented in The Eastwood Primary School Engagement and Wellbeing Policy. Our approach is based on researched best practice and focuses on the whole school, small groups of children and individual students.

Selection Criteria

n

1. Demonstrated Expertise in Deaf Education and Inclusive Teachingn

Proven ability to plan, deliver, and evaluate high-quality teaching for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students using evidence-based approaches that support language, literacy, communication, and access to learning.
2. Strong Knowledge of Auslan, Communication Access, and Deaf Culture

n

Demonstrated proficiency in Auslan and a strong understanding of Deaf culture, bilingual practice, and communication strategies that support students¿ full participation in learning and school life.
3. Capacity to Differentiate and Adapt Curriculum for Diverse Learners

n

Proven ability to design and implement engaging, differentiated learning programs that respond to individual student needs, including language development, wellbeing, achievement levels, and developmental stages.
4. Effective Use of Assistive Technology and Learning Adjustments

n

Demonstrated understanding of hearing technology, assistive listening systems, captioning, visual supports, and classroom adjustments that maximise access, engagement, and independence f
