Primary objective
Deliver support to students with a disability in the Learning Centre, delivering high quality educational programs and
adjustments for students with additional needs in partnership with families, community and qualified networks to achieve
optimal educational outcomes.
Context statement
Nhulunbuy Primary School is situated in the mining town of Nhulunbuy on the Gove Peninsula, East Arnhem Land. The
school has an enrolment of approximately 400 students, including preschool.
The school has approximately 40% Indigenous
student population.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Work collaboratively with the Learning centre staff to assist in the planning, preparation, implementation, and
assessment of individualised educational programs.
2. Administer first aid and health care support in line with individualised plans in accordance with department policies.
3. Develop and effectively maintain appropriate working relationships with students with disability, families and work
colleagues whilst maintaining confidentiality.
4. Manage and complete a range of administrative tasks including word processing, data entry, photocopying and SAMS
entry in a timely manner.
5. Assist with instruction of students in classrooms, within one to one and small group situations as identified by the
Learning Centre and in extra activities including excursions and camps.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Ability to support students with a diverse range of learning needs, disabilities, and trauma and who have deficits in
adaptive functioning in areas such as communication; self-care; social/interpersonal skills and functional academic skills.
2. Proven ability to communicate effectively using various communication strategies and appropriate interpersonal skills
with students who have a diverse range of intellectual disabilities.
3. Demonstrated experience in working collaboratively and communicating effectively to support productive partnerships.
4. Demonstrated experience in undertaking a range of administrative tasks including computer applications such as
Microsoft office, spreadsheets, and data systems such as Student Administration Management System (SAMS).
Desirable
1. Current first aid certificate or ability to obtain.
