About the Opportunity
Zeal Futures, in partnership with Camden Council, is offering an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join as an Urban Forest Apprentice, completing a Certificate III in Horticulture – Parks & Gardens over 36 months.
You’ll gain valuable hands‑on experience maintaining Camden’s parks, trees, and green spaces, while also developing technical skills in horticulture and arboriculture. This is an excellent opportunity to learn, earn, and make a real impact in the local community.
What You’ll Be Doing
As an Urban Forest Apprentice, you will:
- Identify trees, shrubs, and other plant species relevant to the role
- Assist with storm-related vegetation and customer service requests
- Help with pruning, planting, and maintaining trees under supervision
- Record and enter accurate data into Council’s urban forest management systems
- Identify and report pest and disease issues
- Support the implementation of the Tree Establishment Program
- Observe and learn how arboricultural contracts are managed
This position involves a blend of indoor and outdoor tasks, with a greater emphasis on outdoor work compared to indoor responsibilities.
About You
The ideal candidate will:
- Enjoy working outdoors and as part of a team
- Be reliable, motivated, and willing to learn
- Be physically fit and comfortable with manual work
- Have basic literacy, numeracy, and computer skills
- Hold (or be willing to obtain) a White Card for construction safety
- Hold a P1 or higher driver’s licence (or be working towards it)
- Be able to complete a pre-employment medical and drug and alcohol screening
