The City of Canterbury Bankstown is one of the largest Council’s in NSW with one of the most culturally, socially and economically diverse communities in Sydney. We deliver 28 key services such as childcare, waste collection, parks maintenance, libraries, community facilities and aquatic centres to over 380,000 residents.

The role

CBCity is seeking a hands‑on, people‑focused Team Leader Waste Operations to support the daily delivery of safe, reliable waste collection services. This role is all about being present with your drivers, supporting them throughout the day, and ensuring operations run smoothly for the community.

What a typical day looks like

Your day starts early reviewing rosters, confirming attendance and preparing drivers for their runs. You’ll be the go‑to contact for your team, helping them navigate day‑to‑day challenges and ensuring services stay on track.

Throughout the day you will:

- Supervise drivers and provide guidance on daily operational matters
- Manage rosters, leave and coverage so all runs are adequately staffed
- Communicate with Waste Admin on route changes, enquiries and updates
- Support and train drivers, including onboarding and refresher training
- Respond to customer complaints and arrange appropriate follow‑up
- Monitor WHS and Chain of Responsibility obligations
- Drive HR vehicles when required to support service delivery
- Complete daily operational documentation, reports and incident records

No two days are the same, but your focus will always be to keep the team supported, safe and delivering high‑quality waste services to the community.

You will have

- HR Class Driver’s Licence
- Knowledge of WHS and Chain of Responsibility legislation
- Basic Microsoft Office skills (rosters, reporting, communication)
- Strong communication skills and the ability to mentor and support drivers
- A practical, calm,

The salary range for this opportunity starts at $93,583 (Grade G, Step 1) + 12% super. Salary may be negotiable dependent on skills and experience.
