Role

As a Local Laws Officer, you will implement Council Local Laws, Subordinate Local Laws and some State legislation to assist in the protection of the amenity and safety of the local government area. Local Laws Officers respond to customer requests in the form of enquiries and complaints and have an important role educating the community.

Our Local Laws Officers work a roster that includes staggered, earlier or later start and finish times, rostered work on some weekends and public holidays and participation in an after‑hours on‑call roster. Additionally,



the role calls for physically demanding work to be undertaken in a hot and humid climate on a daily basis and includes a responsibility to be and remain physically fit and able to efficiently and consistently undertake these tasks.

What we are looking for

We are seeking a motivated and capable individual who thrives in a team environment, with excellent time management and communication skills and a strong focus on the provision of quality customer service. You will be able to interpret legislative requirements and apply them effectively and efficiently across all aspects of your work. The successful applicant will have:

- Current Queensland C class driver’s licence
- Minimum education to Year 12 or equivalent educational and/or work experience
- Ability or demonstrated experience in educating and informing customers on new legislation, requirements and processes
- Proficient in dealing with challenging interactions and conflict resolution
- Experience in dealing with customers from different backgrounds
- Tertiary qualifications or experience in law enforcement (desirable)
- Certificate IV in Animal Control and Regulation (desirable)
- Queensland Firearms Licence (desirable)
- Previous experience working as an Authorised Person (desirable)
- Prior experience with corporate systems including Technology One, ECM, and Map Info (desirable)
- Current Working with Children Blue Card (desirable)

Please note, it is an occupational requirement of this position to be vaccinated for Hepatitis A and B,



Tetanus and Q Fever. The successful applicant may be required to pass a Criminal History Check.

You will be an Australian or Current Zealand citizen, Australian permanent resident or have unrestricted work rights in Australia. Mareeba Shire Council does not offer employer visa sponsorship.
