The Opportunity At Ochre Medical Centre Walgett, you’ll be part of a busy and varied practice, providing vital GP services to the community while supporting Walgett Multipurpose Service Hospital, located right next door. Doctors can walk from the clinic to the hospital to see patients, ensuring continuity of care and strong collaboration between clinic and hospital.
Throughout this program, you’ll receive
practical, on‑the‑ground support
from our experienced team, including nurses, practice staff, and hospital colleagues, helping you confidently navigate clinical cases and hospital workflows. The program is designed to:
Develop your skills in general practice while maintaining your ED expertise
Provide structured guidance through the GP pathway
Enable hands‑on experience with hospital‑based care and outpatient GP services
Maximise your earning potential during the training period
Visiting specialists, allied health services, and primary health programs further enhance learning and patient care experiences, offering a well‑rounded clinical environment.
Your Pathway to Fellowship & Support
Total package valued up to $615,000 per annum
General Practice Billings: Average around $2,000 per day
On‑Call Payments: $1,800 per day,
with 161 days rostered annually = $289,800
Moratorium Reduction: MM6 location with RA4 scaling benefit, reducing the moratorium period to six years
House and car included as part of the package
Team Support: Collaborative and welcoming environment, with practical guidance from the clinic and hospital team while you train
Professional Development: Structured learning to increase your GP skills and experience until Fellowship

About The Practice And Hospital Ochre Medical Centre Walgett is the sole medical centre in town, providing essential GP services to the community and hospital support. The clinic works closely with Walgett Multipurpose Service Hospital, which has 24 beds (16 acute, 8 residential aged care) and provides 24‑hour emergency care, general medicine, rehabilitation, respite, palliative care, renal dialysis, and community health programs. Visiting specialists and allied health services, including mental health, drug and alcohol, women’s health, and skin checks, further enhance patient care and professional learning. You’ll be part of a team that is committed to high‑quality rural healthcare, professional development, and career progression.
