The Role
The Town of Port Hedland is seeking an individual who is passionate about tourism for the Coordinator Visitor Services role, reporting to the Principal Economic Development & Tourism.
From 1 November 2026, the Port Hedland Visitor Centre will transition from third‑party management to management by the Town. The Coordinator Visitor Services is responsible for leading this transition, ensuring a seamless and effective changeover and integration into the Town's existing operations. Following the transition, the Coordinator Visitor Services will then oversee the operations of the Port Hedland Visitor Centre and the delivery of high‑quality, engaging visitor information services that promote local attractions, enhance the visitor experience and support regional tourism development.
We're looking for someone with:
- Demonstrated experience in a similar role in either the local government, tourism industry, retail industry or other related industry, or substantial experience in a supervisory role requiring a high level of contact with the public.
- Demonstrated project management skills, including the ability to work autonomously within a team environment.
- Sound leadership skills and demonstrated experience in a supervisory role sufficient to be able to provide leadership and effective day‑to‑day management to a small team.
- Understanding of the principles of facility management and tourism and sound knowledge of relevant tourism organisations and government agencies.
- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Organisational, time management, problem‑solving and analytical skills.
- Proven capacity to produce high‑level work and attention to detail.
- Conflict resolution and complaint‑handling skills.
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office applications.
Work Related Requirements
The preferred applicant will be required to undergo a pre‑employment medical, including drug and alcohol assessment to be considered for the role, as well as possess:
- National Police Clearance
- Current 'C' class driver's license
- Rights to work in Australia
