About the role
This position requires an enthusiastic and energetic Lower Strings Music Tuition Specialist with the necessary qualifications to teach in Year 3 Sing and String and assist our Lower Strings students to succeed in their pursuit of excellence in Academic Music, Music Tuition and Co-curricular Music.
The Music Tuition Specialist (Lower Strings) position encompasses teaching as part of Year 3 Sing and String on a Wednesday (9.45am to 1.10pm), 8 – 9 hours of teaching, leading a Co-curricular Music ensemble on Thursday morning plus performances and meetings as required.
Mandatory requirement
Applicants should possess or be eligible to possess a current Positive Notice Blue Card from the Department of Justice and Attorney-General.
Responsibilities of the role
Students at Ormiston College are offered expert tuition on the full range of instruments and voice. There is a staff of 12 casual Music Tuition Specialists who are all outstanding instructors of their instrument. The majority of lessons are private lessons taught during school hours at the College. Participation by the students in Music Tuition is purely voluntary with over 570 students currently involved.
Key duties of this position are to:
Music Tuition Specialists should:
- Provide the best possible tuition to each student through the teaching of:
- Sound technique
- Knowledge about repertoire for the instrument
- Proper care of the instrument
- Good musicality and performance techniques
- Music theory leading to the reading of music.
- Cater for the needs of individual students through thorough planning, preparation of resources and reviewing of teaching strategies, within the College’s Teaching and Learning Framework.
- Thoroughly prepare students for exams,
competitions and other performances, but only when the pursuit of such a goal has been agreed upon as being beneficial for the student’s progress.
- Facilitate and document planning and reporting processes according to Ormiston College policies, and within the College-developed Music Tuition Curriculum and Assessment Rubrics.
- Maintain open and productive communication with students, parents and other staff members in order to facilitate high quality outcomes.
- Evidence of involvement in ongoing career development.
- Demonstrate a commitment to the aims, objectives and ethos of Ormiston College.
Co-curricular Music
Ormiston College has an established reputation for excellence in music performance. There is a wide variety of instrumental and vocal ensembles on offer involving students of all ages with all levels of experience. Some ensembles involve students from both the Junior and Secondary Schools while others are separate.
