Bus Driver or Bus Assistant for the Joondalup Community!
As a City of Joondalup Community Transport Volunteer, you’ll play a vital role in helping residents. Providing friendly and compassionate service to all passengers, you will work alongside a team dedicated to improving independence for residents. Put your driving experience to use in a role that truly matters: reliable, compassionate individuals with a valid driver’s licence to drive and assist with the program, and who want to help make everyday life a little easier for others by providing safe and reliable door‑to‑door transport to selected shopping centres, Whitford Seniors Club and the Joondalup Library. Community spirit and connectedness is what gives the City’s residents a sense of belonging and helps them to feel welcomed, accepted and safe.
Responsibilities
- Provide excellent customer care
- Converse with residents during the pickup and travel
- Perform basic vehicle compliance checks (oil, water, tyres, lights, etc.)
- Plan routes to each pickup point before departing
- Monitor the safety of clients whilst on the bus and report any concerns
- Assist residents with shopping bags, walkers, etc.
- Handle cash
- Return the bus back safely to the depot and report any issues
- Ensure that the bus is kept clean and tidy

Skills
- Ability to read a map or use a GPS (Global Positioning System)
- Good customer service skills
- Ability to receive money from passengers and perform simple maths for change
- Ability to work in a team
- Friendly, patient, reliable and punctual disposition
- Patience in assisting frail aged people and people with disability
Knowledge
- Sound knowledge of road rules with a safe and courteous attitude to driving
- Basic vehicle compliance (oil, water, tyres, lights, etc.)
Training
- Vehicle operation and handling accessible transport needs (such as wheelchair lifts and restraints)
- Learn how to manage transport routes efficiently while accommodating individual passenger needs
- Understand responsibilities regarding passenger welfare, confidentiality, and safety
- Understand relevant policies, procedures, and licensing requirements

Drivers are needed for bus runs Monday to Friday 7‑5 and Saturday runs 8‑1. Additional community hire opportunities exist outside these hours. Hours and frequency are flexible to fit applicant availability.
