The City of Swan is seeking a self‑motivated individual who is looking to develop their career, whilst making a meaningful and direct contribution to improving the quality of life of the community.
Waste Services provides a workforce to manage the delivery of Refuse and Recycling Services to the community in line with the Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Act (WARR Act 2007). These services consist of kerbside domestic and commercial refuse/recycling bin services, bulk verge collections, and litterbin servicing of the City’s Parks/Reserves and street litterbins including district clean‑up of illegal dumping and littering.
The City of Swan Fleet and Waste Services Business Unit is focused on meeting the environmental requirements by increasing resource recovery and further reducing waste to landfill while reducing the impact of waste on the environment.
This position will be required to safely and efficiently operate rear‑loader vehicles, plant and equipment to undertake bulk verge collection from verges within the City of Swan while adhering closely to Work, Health & Safety policies, procedures and regulations. This position may also provide services such as waste collection, litter collection, bin repairs, bin replacements, bin deliveries and bulk verge collection in a safe and efficient manner.
Key accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
- Operate rear‑loader vehicles, plant and equipment (such as small articulated loader, crane truck etc.) safely and efficiently.
- Undertake bulk verge collection from verges within the City of Swan.
- Comply with relevant Work, Health & Safety legislation and complete work in a safe and productive manner, having regard to own safety, the public and that of other workers.
- Willing to be trained on other tasks and operation of machineries (such as side loader vehicles) as required.
About you
- Current “HR” class Driver’s Licence (West Australian).
- A satisfactory National Police Certificate is required.
- Rear‑loader waste collection experience.
- Demonstrated ability to deal with a variety of situations requiring a sensible and calm customer service approach.
- Working knowledge of the safe and efficient operation of heavy vehicles in the metropolitan area, including in high‑density development.

The salary for this position will be from $75,460 to $79,360 per annum plus weekend penalties, depending on the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
