Leading Hand Boat Builder – Airlift Hovercraft
Location: Alberton, QLD | Type: Full-Time | Start: Immediate
Airlift Hovercraft is seeking an experienced Leading Hand Boat Builder to take a key role in the assembly and production of our world-class hovercraft. This position is ideal for a skilled tradesperson ready to step up into a leadership role, guiding a small team while remaining hands-on in the workshop.
About the Role
As Leading Hand, you will oversee day-to-day boatbuilding and marine craft assembly activities, ensuring production targets, quality, and safety standards are met. You’ll provide direction, allocate tasks, and work closely with engineers and management, while also contributing directly to fabrication, fitout, and finishing of hulls, decks, and structural components.
Responsibilities
· Lead and supervise a small team of boatbuilders and assemblers.
· Build and fit hovercraft hulls, bulkheads, and decks using composite and marine-grade materials.
· Install propulsion, steering, and skirt systems.
· Coordinate workflow to meet deadlines and maintain quality standards.
· Mentor and support team members to develop skills and efficiency.
· Liaise with engineering to interpret drawings and resolve build issues.
· Conduct inspections and ensure compliance with safety and marine standards.
Requirements
· Proven boatbuilding, shipbuilding, or marine fabrication experience.
· Leadership or team-leading experience within a workshop environment.
· Skilled in working with composites (fibreglass, carbon fibre) and marine fit outs.
· Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
· Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
· Commitment to safe, high-quality workmanship.
· Trade or vocational qualifications in marine construction or engineering are desirable.
