About the role
Play a key role in shaping the future and delivering impactful outcomes for the Hume community while driving People Operations and Safety outcomes at one of Victoria's most diverse growth councils.
Located just 15 kilometres north‑west of the centre of Melbourne, Hume City Council is one of Australia's fastest growing and culturally diverse communities. Key responsibilities
Reporting to the Chief People Officer, the Manager of People Operations and Safety will be responsible for providing strategic leadership across a broad portfolio, including Payroll, Data and Systems, People & Partnerships, Safety, Return to Work, and Talent Acquisition. The directorate also includes industrial and employee relations (IR/ER), organisational capability, and broader human resources functions. Serving as a strategic partner to the executive leadership team, the role will support the Chief People Officer in delivering the People and Culture strategy,
while leading a multi‑functional team to drive operational excellence across the People and Culture landscape.
Qualifications & experience
- Analytical thinker with a track record of managing high‑performing teams.
- Tertiary qualifications in a related field with a strong foundation in IR/ER policies and practices.
- Proven ability to lead the development and implementation of complex and sensitive projects, ideally in local government or broader public sector.
- Operational and strategic experience, with a capacity to coach organisational leaders to support and implement change and drive excellence in performance.
- Proven experience uplifting OH&S; practices and embedding safety cultures.
- Values‑driven leader with a collaborative approach and genuine commitment to making a difference in the community.
