The Project Manager (Fisheries) is responsible for providing general advice on fisheries matters to the TSRA, its Fisheries Advisory Committee and its fishers.
The role develops and implements projects that supports the aim of the programme. The Project Manager understands and works within a legislative framework, including the Torres Strait Fisheries Act 1984 , the Torres Strait Fisheries Regulations 1985 and the Native Title Act 1993 .
The Project Manager will support the Fisheries Advisory Committee by facilitating a strategic forum to discuss matters about Protected Zone fisheries resources and the impact fisheries and related decisions have on Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal people living in the region.
The Committee provides strategic advice and make recommendations to the TSRA Board about fisheries matters.
This role will oversee the implementation of deliverables encompassing the FAC workplan as well as other strategic initiatives supported by the TSRA Board.
The key duties of the position include
The Project Manager may lead a small team and is responsible for operational and financial management of agreed projects and activities, under the direction of the Program Manager.
The role works closely with the Program Manager (PZJA) on fisheries management matters ensuring projects are aligned to best practice fisheries management and the aspirations of traditional inhabitants.
