C & T Geotechnical (Melbourne) Pty Ltd provides comprehensive geotechnical and materials testing services to the construction, infrastructure, and resources sectors. Our business is continuing to grow and we are seeking a full-time Civil Engineering Technician to join our team. This role offers the chance to work alongside experienced engineers, technicians, and field professionals, and to contribute to the ongoing development and success of our company.
Key duties and responsibilities include:
· Conduct testing and analysis of material samples to determine their composition and properties, including sample preparation and material classification using laboratory equipment
· Label, log, and organize samples to maintain traceability
· Conduct routine soil tests (e.g., moisture content, Atterberg limits, grain size analysis, compaction tests, pH, conductivity)
· Prepare soil specimens for laboratory testing as per relevant Australian Standards (drying, sieving, mixing, etc.)
· Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as balances, ovens, hydrometers, compactors, and sieves
· Collect and record test data accurately in laboratory worksheets or digital systems, and prepare sketches for test reporting
· Ensure all results meet quality assurance and quality control standards
· Calibrate instruments and perform routine equipment checks
· Assist in reporting test results to engineers, supervisors, or project managers
· Assist engineers by providing test data and measurements that help inform cost estimates for materials and field operations
· Dispose of soil waste according to environmental and lab regulations
· Maintain the laboratory in compliance with QA/QC and Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) regulations
· Communicate any equipment issues, unusual results, or safety concerns to supervisors
· Participate in training, meetings or audits related to lab processes and quality systems
· Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized workspace
Skills and experience expected include:
· At least a Diploma or a higher qualification in civil engineering or in a relevant field
· At least 1 year of work experience in a similar role
· Proficiency in civil engineering laboratory techniques
· Sound understanding of Australian Standards relevant to soil and materials testing
· Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records
· Good problem-solving skills and the ability to identify irregularities in test results
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
· Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
· Basic computer proficiency (e.g., Microsoft Office, laboratory information management systems)
· A commitment to workplace health and safety practices
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $75,000.00 – $85,000.00 per year
