About the Role:
As an Aboriginal Health Practitioner, you will play a key role in enhancing clinical services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, families, and communities. Working under the direction of the Mental Health Lead and closely with the Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) team, you will help bridge the gap between clinical mental health services and holistic, culturally grounded wellbeing supports. In this role, you will deliver clinical assessment, screening, case management, education,
and referral services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people accessing the program.
Experience Requirements:
- Demonstrated experience as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner (minimum three years desired), with strong clinical skills in assessment, care coordination, risk management, and trauma-informed practice.
- Strong understanding of mental health and Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) frameworks, particularly within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander contexts.
- Ability to deliver culturally grounded, recovery-oriented care, bridging clinical and cultural approaches across mainstream and community-controlled systems.
- High-level communication and engagement skills, with the ability to build trust, work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams, and work effectively with individuals, families, and communities.
- Solid knowledge of cultural safety, self-determination, and the social determinants of health, including factors affecting consent, behaviour, and vulnerability.
- Strong organisational capability, including managing clinical workloads, MDT reviews, reporting, compliance, and participation in accreditation requirements, with a commitment to continuous learning and reflective practice.
Qualification and Other Requirements:
- Certificate IV in Aboriginal Health Care (Practice)
- Current registration with APHRA as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner.
- Current or willing to obtain a Working with Children's Check (WWCC), National Police Check (NPC) and Vulnerable Persons Check
- Current or willing to obtain vaccinations for Diphtheria, Whooping Cough, Polio, Hepatitis A & B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Chickenpox and Tuberculosis, as per SA Health Policy
