Who we are
Finance, Reporting and Operations Branch
The Finance, Reporting and Operations Branch is responsible for ensuring the financial sustainability and security of the ACMA through financial, procurement, facilities, travel and physical security services. The Branch proactively engages with business areas to provide advice, and financial and business performance reporting to drive strategic decision making and support the broader organisation. The Branch also provides assurance over the various revenue streams collected on behalf of the Commonwealth and leads the development of a range of budget and financial governance arrangements.
Revenue, Cost Recovery, Financial Statements & Reporting
The Revenue, Cost Recovery, Financial Statements & Reporting Section is responsible for providing assurance over the various revenue streams collected on behalf of the Commonwealth, the custodians of the cost recovery policy advice, the management of financial accounting processes and preparation of financial statements.
About the role
This role involves managing financial accounting processes, preparing monthly and annual financial statements, and providing financial advice and reporting to management and external bodies. Key responsibilities include month-end and year-end processes, accruals, maintaining fixed asset register, assistance with financial audits, supporting financial decision-making through analysis and reporting,
and Business Activity Statement preparation. The role requires robust analytical skills, judgement, effective communication, and an understanding of public sector financial frameworks, along with technical skills in financial software (TechOne and CBMS) and Microsoft Excel.
This position is initially non-ongoing with the possibility of extension or becoming ongoing.
The key duties of the position include
As the Financial Accountant, your key responsibilities will be:
- Financial Reporting: Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including management reports.
- Month-End and Year-End Processes: Completing month-end and EOFY closing procedures, including financial journals, workpapers and reconciliations.
- Asset Management: Managing the accounting for fixed assets, including acquisitions, disposals, depreciation, and the maintenance of asset registers.
- Financial Audits: Assisting with annual financial statements and supporting the audit process conducted by the Australian National Audit Office.
- Financial Analysis and Advice: Analysing financial data, providing expert financial advice to senior management and stakeholders, and supporting strategic decision-making.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Responding to requests for financial data from internal stakeholders, other government agencies and other external stakeholders.
- Tax Compliance: Managing and preparing tax obligations, such as the Business Activity Statement (BAS) and Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) return.
- Process Improvement: Identifying problems and implementing improved work practices within the financial accounting functions.
- Corporate Documentation: Drafting various forms of correspondence and corporate documentation.
