Role details

The Health Information Services at the Mackay Base Hospital is seeking applications for a Graduate Clinical Coder to join their team on a temporary basis.

Your opportunity

The Department of Health, in collaboration with Queensland's Hospital and Health Services (HHSs), offers an embedded Clinical Coding Accelerated Graduate Training Program (AGTP) to support recent graduates of the Diploma of Clinical Coding or the Bachelor of Health Information Management. This structured, full-time program provides focused, supported, on-the-job training, designed to fast-track participants into competent and confident clinical coding professionals.

The Graduate Clinical Coder will be employed full-time for a minimum of 24 months by Mackay Hospital and Health Service (MHHS). In the first 12 months, the graduate will concurrently undertake the structured Clinical Coding Accelerated Graduate Training Program at an AO3 level (plus allowances), delivered by the State Health Information Management (HIM) and Clinical Coding Support team.



The subsequent 12 months will be spent working at an AO4 level (plus allowances) at Mackay Base Hospital, building further expertise in a clinical coding environment.

About the Team

The Health Information Service (HIS) provides specialist services that embrace the overall commitment to the management and provision of quality patient information to the Mackay Hospital and Health Service.

The service is comprised of the following key areas: Health Information Management, Clinical Coding, Data Quality, Information Access, Scanning Unit, Medical Typing, Corporate Records, Mail Room and the Switchboard.

The position reports directly to the Clinical Coding Manager and has no direct reports.
