About our teamSIMEC Mining, a member of GFG Alliance, has operations in SA and NSW. Our Iron Ore mining operations in South Australia’s Middleback Ranges, south of Whyalla, consist of three primary mine sites: Iron Baron, Iron Knob and the South Middleback Ranges. Administration functions and ore processing and shipping facilities are located within the city limits of Whyalla, with corporate functions based in Adelaide and Sydney.

About the roleIn this residential role on a 5:2 roster, you will primarily be working for our Iron Baron site in the South Middleback Ranges (SMR), mainly looking after the short-term production and mining contract. You will provide technical and practical advice to mine operations and ensure they meet safety and environmental standards. You will work closely with Contractors, Geologists, Survey, metallurgist and Grade Control to ensure development of mine schedules.
Working closely with the Superintendent Mining, your main responsibilities will include:
Liaise with the planning department and on-site contractor to ensure short-term mine planning
Attend daily production meetings and work directly with the contractor to make sure agendas are aligned
Field Contract administration and execution for compliance monitoring
Monitor production tracking and adjustments to forecasting
Oversee mining operations and implantation of plans; providing support in resolving daily mining operational issues.
About your experienceWe are looking for a fast-learning individual, who can hit the ground running, preferably with prior open-cut and hard rock experience.
Along with your excellent verbal and written communication skills, you will ideally bring to this role:
Previous experience in mine planning and scheduling with solid exposure to mining operations and contract management
Experience in an open pit, hard rock environment
Tertiary qualification in Mine Engineering, or related
Experience in Datamine, Surpac, XACT, OPMS are highly regarded.
Competent in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel for the purpose of reporting
