In this role you will be reporting to the Payroll Manager, and collaborating with a Senior Payroll Specialist for ensuring that the team is effective and able to provide excellent advice and assistance to Council employees on payroll process and other payroll related queries.

This is an operational position, with the successful candidate managing the effective day to day, monthly and yearly payroll functions. To ensure the Payroll Officer is able to maintain a very high customer service focus, it is expected that incumbent keeps up to date with ATO requirements and payroll legislation changes for ensuring Council is compliant with all reporting requirements.

the successful candidate will also manage and foster effective working relationships with both internal and external customers/employees.

As a trusted advisor, you will have the support of a high-performing team who are equally as passionate about delivering People & Culture advice and management support to a multi-disciplinary organisation.

Qualifications (Level)

- Certificate IV in Administration or related discipline



- At least 5 years’ experience processing payroll for a medium to large organisation

- A minimum of 2 years’ experience using Chris 21


- Excellent customer service skills

- High computer literacy, specifically Microsoft Excel

- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision

- Highly developed planning, organisational and time management skills and an ability to meet strict deadlines and work under pressure.

- Highly developed analytical and numeracy skills

- Effective influencing, negotiation, consultation, problem solving and communication skills.

- Understanding of and commitment to EEO & OH&S; principles.

- Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion when dealing with confidential information.

- Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple Awards and Agreements

- Extensive knowledge of legislation and payroll principles

We are offering an attractive salary package from $75,797.84p.a plus superannuation. City of Parramatta also offer excellent employee benefits which can be accessed by the successful candidate, including a 35 hour working week and flexible work practices.
