- Full-time Level B, fixed term 4 years with a base salary of $108K - $128K p.a., plus leave loading and a generous employer’s contribution to superannuation

About the opportunity

Do you want to be part of a vibrant and collegial community of world-class mathematicians and statisticians? We are currently seeking to appoint an accomplished academic to the position of Lecturer in Mathematics.

This position has been made possible by the awarding of a Future Fellowship titled “Unravelling the impact of social dynamics on human evolution through mathematical modelling” to Associate Professor Peter Kim.

To succeed, you will be a talented and well-qualified mathematical scientist with expertise in any area that strengthens the School’s profile and/or contributes strategically to university activities, particularly with regard tothe research interests of Associate Professor Peter Kim and the details of his current project. This includes but isnot limited to applied mathematics, mathematical biology, and mathematical modelling.

If appointed, you will be expected to make a significant contribution to teaching and learning practice, design and evaluation within the School/ Faculty while continuing to build up research contribution, expertise and impact.

About you

- a PhD or near completion, in an academic field relevant to the discipline

- evidence of independent research ability and potential in applied mathematics relevant to the project

- experience in teaching and learning, as evidenced by participation in team teaching within anestablished program and experience of teaching in a variety of settings

- capacity to work co-operatively with others

- experience in supervising or mentoring others and/or coordinating team activities

- excellent organisational and administrative skills with attention to detail

- excellent written and verbal communication skills

This position is within the School of Mathematics and Statistics, Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney.

The Faculty of Science is one of six faculties operating within the University and includes the Schools of Chemistry, Geosciences, Life and Environmental Sciences, Mathematics & Statistics, Physics, Psychology, the Sydney School of Veterinary Science and the Unit for History and Philosophy of Science. The Faculty stewards a range of research entities including the Sydney Institute of Agriculture and the Lambert Initiative for Cannabinoid Therapeutics, and partners withUniversity-wide research centres including the Charles Perkins Centre (CPC), the Brain and Mind Centre (BMC) and the Australian Institute for Nanoscale Science andTechnology (AINST).

The School of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of Sydney is one of the largest in Australia. It hasmore than 89 academic staff to supervise research and teaching 74 postgraduate students and 925 equivalent full-time student-load undergraduate students.
