Duties and responsibilities:

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will direct the service and repairs on machines within the IPS Australia product range on client sites, ensuring safety, high quality, and on time delivery.

Your main responsibilities will include:

Planning for large mechanical shutdowns on petrochemical plants, power plants and refineries, with work on multiple job fronts, identifying critical paths, bottlenecks and required manning levels across jobs.

Directing large crews on shutdowns comprising Service engineers, Fitters, Riggers and Trade assistants.

Mentoring graduate mechanical engineers through the design process



Investigating and identifying requirements for new designs and identifying applicable standards and regulation requirements for designs made by junior engineers.

Using CAD software to design machinery components, pressure storage containers, checking interference detection as a result of design changes, measuring old and damaged physical components and re-engineering missing and damaged parts followed by generating engineering drawings for manufacturing contractors.

Checking drawings made by junior engineers and mechanical engineering interns.

Liaising with multiple manufacturing contractors with technical specification sheets along with the drawings to obtain tenders

Development of specific internal quality documentation (ITP’s, IRS, Work Procedures) for service activities in conjunction with Operations Manager.

Maintaining a good relationship and communication with various clients and represented companies in regard to mechanical / technical advice and expertise.

Involvement in control of stock, consumables, etc. on site.

Maintaining standards as applicable for various represented companies and applicable Australian Standards.



Skills required:

Adherence to a high standard of safety according to IPS and Australian safety, QA and Environmental standards

Experience in planning and directing maintenance activities on rotating machinery from various manufacturers, in the workshop or at client’s site.

Since this position requires supervising technicians, hands on experience on similar machinery would be essential in the following activities

o Provide high quality service report including recommendations



The ability to provide quality inspection reports to the client including identifying potential causes of damage or failure and provide solutions to rebuild the machinery to a high standard

Proficiency with the following equipment and software:



o Rotor balance machine

o Laser alignment equipment

o 3D scanning/probing arm and software

o 3D CAD software (Solidworks) and design parts/assemblies, provide

2D drawings

o FEA (finite element analysis) software



Experience in project planning and management



A good understanding of the commercial side of the business to be able to assist sales in developing proposals



Minimum requirements for this role

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering

Project management experience

Have expert knowledge in rotating machinery

The incumbent has good understanding/knowledge of quality and safety management systems.

Minimum 2 years' experience in a similar role.



Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $80,000 - $100,00 + Car allowance + Superannuation
