Curtin University is conducting an international search for an Associate Professor Hearing Therapeutics. This is a joint appointment and collaboration with the Ear Science Institute Australia.

Ear Science Institute Australia – is a world class centre of excellence based in Perth Western Australia with a mission to improve the lives of those with ear, hearing and balance disorders through prevention, research, education and clinical service delivery. Twenty years on, Ear Science Institute Australia has evolved into a fully integrated medical research institute.

In this role you will;



Have overall responsibility for the research activities and leadership within the Hearing Therapeutics Research Group at Ear Science Institute Australia (ESIA).

Contribute to the research culture of the relevant domain within the Curtin Health Innovation Research Institute.

Exceed performance and leadership in furtherance of the strategic goals of ESIA.

Design and carry out investigations and research-based activities in the field of;



Ear tissue regeneration/engineering including epithelial cell and bone regeneration.

Biomaterials development including hydrogels and scaffolds of the ear and drug release.

Inner ear drug delivery models.

Work amongst researchers and clinicians at ESIA.

Lead the Hearing Therapeutics Research Group on existing and new research projects.

Recruit additional personnel, including post-doctoral scientists and students.



We are looking for someone with…

Doctoral qualification in relevant discipline. Cell biologist and pharmacology preferred.

Demonstrated leadership of (integrated research) both within and across groups in academic and/or industry.

Established record of highly productive research outputs with regular publications and an established international reputation that aligns with the key areas of ESIA research.



Ear tissue regeneration/engineering including epithelial cell and bone regeneration.

Biomaterials development including hydrogels and scaffolds of the ear and drug release.

Inner ear drug delivery models.

Evidence of obtaining research income, including nationally competitive grants.

Strong leadership and mentoring skills.

High level communication and interpersonal skills.
