This is a three (3) month fixed term, part-time (0.53FTE) position commencing Term 1, 2021 with possible extension and/or permanency

Karratha Primary School (PS) is seeking to appoint a reliable School Officer to join their team.

The successful applicant will ideally possess strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, with an excellent customer service focus which will be used to develop and promote the school’s values, ethos and priorities across the school community.

They will be self-motivated and exhibit the ability to work independently using initiative, collaboratively as part of a team and in conjunction with a diverse range of individuals and professionals, maintaining a calm and professional service whilst prioritising tasks and dealing with conflicting deadlines in a busy office/school environment.

As the successful School Officer your duties will include meeting and greeting visitors, answering telephones, assessing new student enrolments and responding to routine enquiries and requests for information, whilst maintaining confidentiality. In addition to strong communication skills, applicants will utilise their skills in various Microsoft office and data software packages to enter student enrolment data, complete administrative duties to support the Associate Principals, preparing notices and correspondence.

Karratha PS is an inclusive school with specialist education support facilities providing educational services for all our students from Kindergarten through to Year 6. In 2018, a Japanese language program commenced for students in Year 3 and our science room is currently undergoing a significant upgrade. Extracurricular activities include coding club, choir and sporting activities.

The Student Services team includes a deputy principal working closely with the school psychologist, chaplain, learning support coordinator and school nurse to meet the health and wellbeing needs of students. Extra agency support is accessed for students with additional needs. The School Board and Parents and Citizens Committee are actively involved in the school.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

- Experience in providing effective administrative support with the ability to organise and prioritise tasks effectively.

- Experience in financial processes and procedures, including the handling of debtors, creditors, reconciliations, and /or preparing financial returns.

- Ability in using computers and a range of application software packages, particularly databases, spreadsheets and word processing.

- Good verbal and written communication skills and experience in the application of customer service principles and practices.

- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work unsupervised and in a team environment.

Eligibility and Training Requirements

Employees will be required to:

- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;

- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;

- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;

- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;

- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy;

- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
