Position details


This is an ongoing, partime (0.6) position commencing 1 January 2021. The days of the position are able to be negotiated with the Principal.

Aranmore Catholic Primary School is an inner-city two stream co-education primary school, catering for children from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 6. The diverse multi-cultural student population, make this child focused community rich and robust. The school enjoys a strong relationship with the local parish and strong support from the parent community.

Selection Criteria:

The successful applicant will be required to provide counselling services for students, parent information sessions and assist staff in the implementation of programs that support wellbeing,

as well as be a liaison between home and school.

The successful applicant will be required to support students with their individual social and emotional needs and provide strategies to assist teachers in building happy, strong, positive relationships and resilience.

The Social Worker will be involved in a 2/3 year old Playgroup, early years education and community liaison.

The Social Worker will be required to collaborate with the Leadership team and class teachers to continue to nurture the established strategies and action plans that promote student wellbeing and assist in developing further opportunities to support the wellbeing of students, staff and the wider school community.

A working knowledge and recent experience of the PATHS program and the CEWA Child Safe Framework; Playgroup and community work are highly desirable.

The position requires the successful applicant to work within the values and ethos of Catholic Education WA and have experience working in a school setting.

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

- Counselling students and families

- Developing positive, trusting and professional relationships with students and families

- Sharing skills and expertise with staff

- Liaising and assisting with referrals to outside community agencies

- Conducting whole class workshops, delivering class programs to assist teachers in the classroom

- Provide parent workshops aligned to the school's strategic plan and student/parent need

- Support and provide pastoral care for staff

Qualifications Required:

- An appropriate tertiary qualification - preferably a degree in Social Work or similar

- Eligibility for membership of AASW

- Accreditation to Work in a Catholic school
