The University of Queensland was, in 1936, the first university in the English-speaking world to establish a Department of Social Medicine. This evolved in the 1950’s to the Department of Preventative and Social Medicine and the School was formally established in 2001 to improve health outcomes through learning, discovery and engagement. We offer programs and courses in all major fields of population and public health to almost 1000 postgraduate and undergraduate students. More than 100 research higher degree (PhD and MPhil) students actively contribute to the School’s vibrant research culture while receiving comprehensive preparation for academic careers or leadership roles in public health.

About This Opportunity
The primary purpose of this Senior Lecturer position is to contribute to teaching in Phase 1 of the MD Program, and research activities in School of Public Health. More specifically, the appointee will contribute to the development, organisation and delivery, including course coordination, of high-quality courses in Health, Society and Research in Phase 1 of the MD Program with a focus on community public health, and other programs as required; collaborate and lead research projects and take part in relevant consultancy activities that can also contribute to research and teaching.
Our Ideal Candidate
We are seeking candidates with a research doctorate (PhD) with a strong emphasis on community health or another aspect of public health and at least two years of experience working in community or other public health organisations. The successful appointee must have the ability to effectively teach at postgraduate level with evidence of continuous improvement activity related to curriculum, teaching resources and pedagogical approaches, a demonstrated record of effective supervision of Higher Degree by Research students and evidence of an independent program of research in public health, with a developing international profile.
To be successful in the role, the appointee must be able to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary setting and have the ability to successfully build and maintain professional relationships to collaborate on research and/or teaching initiatives.

What We Can Offer
This is a full time, fixed term position for three years at academic level C or D. The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range of:
Level C: $119,548 - $137,846 plus super of up to 17%.
Level D: $143,945 - $158,584 plus super of up to 17%
