About the Role
You will work as part of a team who provides efficient andeffective general bushland maintenance tasks in the City’sbushland, estuary and coastal reserves. You will learn allaspects of conservation and land management including assessmentand monitoring activities within reserves, weed identification andspraying, fence installation and repairs, native species planting,tree guarding and general bushland and coastal rehabilitation.
Earn while you learn! We will support youin achieving Certificate III in Conservation and LandManagement. You will attend TAFE (Murdoch South StreetCampus) one day a week. Regular attendance at TAFE is anessential requirement of the role as well as active self-learning(home study). You will receive on the job training fromexperienced and supportive staff. The City will pay for thetraining fees as well as your wages.
Skills needed for the job
- A genuine interest in conservation and land management and a commitment to completing a 2 year traineeship
- Completed or completing a Certificate II in Conservation and Land Management (desirable)
- Good level of physical fitness to undertake manual tasks
- Hold a current unrestricted C-B (Manual) drivers licence or working towards obtaining
- White card
- Able to undertake a medical assessment (including a Drug and Alcohol test)
- Able to follow instructions
- Strong safety awareness
- Excellent attention to detail
- Exceptional time management and punctuality
- Ability to work in a team environment
Applicants must meet the entrance requirement set by TAFE. To be eligible to enrol you must not have completed a CertificateIII or higher. School leavers – OLNA or NAPLAN 9 Band8. Non-school leavers – C Grades in Year 10 English andMaths or equivalent or a Certificate II in Conservation and LandManagement.
This two year traineeship is full-time (38 hours per week) andis located at the Council’s Southern Operations Centre(Dawesville). It attracts a salary range of $31,032 to 53,600gross per annum dependent on age.
