We are a not for profit, community owned, non government organisation which provides high quality care and education for children, national and state wide inclusion services as part of a National Consortia and operate many community based services to children and families. These include transition to school and supported playgroups.

What you will do

The Area Manager, known internally as the Operations Manager, is responsible for managing a portfolio of early learning and care services. The role is responsible for contributing to and implementing organisation-wide change programs, highlighting and building effective systems and developing adequate operational processes across multiple services to ensure the successful running of each service.

The Operation's Manager provides strong leadership and guidance to develop a high performing team of service Directors by providing quality leadership, coaching, guidance and support. This includes the responsibility for delivering on the budget and KPIs of each of the services.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

- Leadership and People & Culture

- Build a strong and positive culture for each service aligned with Big Fat Smile's Vision and Values

- Partner with the Director on financial accountability and acuity, including development of service Directors' financial and sales conversion skills

- Identify and embed best practice service delivery approaches for early education and care/outside school hours care services which will support services to become centres of excellence

- Be the main point of contact for any issues that service Directors need to escalate such as: managing and supporting educators, families and children who display challenging behaviours, parent complaints etc.

- Marketing and Utilisation

- Drive utilisation to ensure targets are met. Ensure each Centre has a strategy to create a pipeline of new enrolments

- Drive and build skills in attraction, retention and engagement of families

- Meet KPIs in relation to utilisation and finance

- Reporting and Analysis

- Deliver accurate and timely management reporting including weekly Utilisation Reporting; collated Monthly Centre Reports; and accountability Reporting for funded programs.

- Compliance, Legislation and Child Protection

- Ensure all services are aware of and comply with Education and Care Services National Regulations; the National Quality Framework; all legislation and law relative to WHS & Child Protection and Big Fat Smile Policies and Procedures at all times

- Undertake audits and reviews of centres' operations, determine and rectify deficits and report accordingly

- Business and Financial Management

- Ensure all services operate within approved budgets and ensure the effective management of resources within each service

- Review of portfolio / centres salary and wage costs and ensure direct salary costs are within budget

- Pedagogy and Learning

- Advocate philosophically informed pedagogy with all service staff in day to day practices

Selection Criteria:

- Previous experience in an Operations Role within the Childcare Industry

- Extensive Centre Director and Operations experience

- High level of professionalism and written and verbal communication skills

- Excellent leadership skills, with the ability to effectively lead, coach, mentor, guide, enable and motivate staff

- Extensive knowledge of Education and Care Services National Regulations and National Quality Framework

- High level skills in project management including the co-ordination of a large number of concurrent tasks

- Skills and exposure to marketing, strategic planning, financial analysis, product or sales management and business administration in the Child Care industry sector

- Experience in multi-site management

- Cleared Valid for paid work, working with Children's Check (WWCC)

- Bachelor Degree in Early Education or a related discipline or equivalent

- A valid driver's licence

- A current National Criminal Record Check
