Glencore’s Ernest Henry Mining is currently seeking a Mine Geologist to work within the Underground Technical Services team.

Ernest Henry Mining is a copper and gold mining and processing operation located 38 kilometres north east of Cloncurry in North West Queensland.

Originally an open pit mine, Ernest Henry Mining transitioned to underground mining in 2011 and also includes a copper concentrator and numerous support services.

The operation forms a critical part of Glencore’s integrated north Queensland supply chain.

The Role

This role is responsible for managing all geological aspects of our large scale Sub-Level Caving operation, working in collaboration with the wider Mine Technical Services team. This role provides excellent exposure to the Sub-Level Caving mining method as well as surface ROM, processing and reconciliation activities.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

In this position you will be responsible for underground mapping, underground production & development inspections, core logging, QA/QC, daily grade tracking activities, collecting hydrogeological data and assisting the mine geology team with defining the Mineral Resource, through diamond drilling and structural wire framing interpretation.

The successful candidate will possess:

- Previously experience in geology in a metalliferous underground mining environment;

- Basic understanding of mine planning & geological software;

- Relevant tertiary qualifications with at least 2 years post graduate experience;

- Ability to work autonomously and within team environments, while demonstrating strong communication and organizational skills;

- A strong commitment to safety, quality and best practice concepts to encourage a safe and efficient working environment are required; and

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, in relation to both technical and operational personnel

This position is locally based in Cloncurry, DIDO from Mount Isa and FIFO from Brisbane, Townsville or Cairns. The successful candidate will work twelve (12) hour shifts on an eight (8) days on, six (6) days off roster.
