New South Wales
Kempsey West Public School is located in a town of approximately 11,000 people on the NSW Mid North Coast. We are surrounded by the magnificent beaches of Crescent Head and South West Rocks, with easy access to the incredible hinterland on the upper reaches of the Macleay valley. There are 408 students enrolled at the school with 50% of these identifying as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander. The school has a strong commitment to literacy and numeracy outcomes (EAFS), and is currently re-shaping the way the entire school operates to create a dynamic, child focussed centre of excellence for learning.
Our current plan incorporates significant professional learning in L3,
Big Ideas in Number and investigates ways of blending sustainability and environmental education with cultural programs to promote student engagement.
Our wraparound staff support model includes 2.4 EFT Instructional Leaders, with a focus on developing reflective practice, supported by research based programs to successfully demonstrate and/or maintain teacher accreditation.
We are creating a culture where staff openly and positively collaborate to get what is best for our students. Kempsey West has a strong connection to the local community of schools and will be actively developing programs that focus on delivering cultural/environmental/resilience at the new Macleay Public Schools – Hickeys Creek Campus.
