Corrective Services NSW (CSNSW) delivers professional Correctional Services and Programs to reduce the risk of re-offending and enhance public safety. It serves a key function of the NSW Justice sector by providing effective, safe and humane management of offenders both in custody and in the community. CSNSW also works in partnership with other government and community agencies to ensure that offenders and their families are supported.
- Statewide Services:
They are part of the Offender Services and Programs Division of CSNSW and contribute to the correctional service to reduce re-offending, enhance community safety, and manage offenders in a safe, secure and humane environment.
- Statewide Programs: CSNSW is committed to reducing the rate of re-offending by 5% by 2023. The programs include the Intensive Drug & Alcohol Treatment Program for Medium/High risk offenders, High Intensity Programs Unit designed for participants servicing a short prison sentence, Sex offender, Serious Offender Assessment Units and VOTP treatment Programs.
Our Clusters: State-wide Services work in a cluster model across custody and community
- Correctional Centers: The Psychologist’s work in custody contributes toward reducing an offender’s risk of re-offending and to support offenders while in custody; manage offenders who present with self-harm and suicide risk, as well as provide assessment and advice regarding risk factors associated with re-offending and how to manage these.
- In the community: Psychologists contribute toward reducing an offender’s risk of re-offending and assisting an offender’s reintegration into the community. Psychologists also provide consultation for case management and in assist offenders with their compliance to community-based supervision orders, as well as provide risk assessment and management.
We are currently seeking Registered Psychologists who enjoy a challenge and sense of reward while working within a multidisciplinary team that is working together toward positive societal changes through reducing reoffending in support of community safety. Bringing your strong communication skills and passion into this role you will be working directly with offenders in custody and with offenders who are under Community Supervision to help across various locations throughout the Northern Region including:
- Shortland Correctional Centre (Programs & State-wide Services)
- Cessnock Correctional Centre (State-wide Services)
- Grafton Community Corrections (State-wide Services)
- Mid North Coast Correctional Centre (State-wide Services)
- Temporary opportunities available at Hunter and Tamworth Correctional Centre ( State-wide Services)
- Delivering assessments, interventions and therapeutic services and programs to people who offend
- Provide risk assessment (including sexual and violent offender assessment) and limited risk management intervention.
- Providing expert consultation to staff regarding offender mental health and risk management
- Maintaining concise documents and notes on offenders receiving psychological services and programs
- Preparing reports, advice and consultation to courts as directed
- Attending professional development and networking opportunities including the annual CSNSW Psychological Conference

Working Hours and Training
- 35 hour week with flexible working arrangements

- Training in sex and violence risk assessments
- You must be able to demonstrate experience in assessment and treatment in correctional psychology including health issues, cognitive impairment, and with respect to behaviour management.
- You must have a minimum 4 year accredited qualification in psychology with current provisional or general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.
- You must have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the psychologist’s ethical and legal obligations and professional accountability.
- Current driver’s licence with ability and willingness to travel throughout NSW
- Please note that pre-provisional psychologists are not eligible to apply.
