Location Profile

Kingston Heath Primary School is located in Cheltenham, approximately 25 kilometres south-east of the Melbourne CBD.

Our school vision states:

At Kingston Heath Primary School, a quality learning environment gives students, staff and the community confidence to strive for excellence as active and positive members of a global village.

Kingston Heath Primary School has a focus on learning through Inquiry, which is embedded in a culture of collaboration and has a strong focus on results. Our philosophy is that learning becomes engaging, relevant, challenging and significant when students ask questions and become involved in their own education.

The school is an accredited Primary Years Programme (PYP) - International Baccalaureate® school. We undertook a rigorous self-study and accreditation visit in the first half of 2019 and were proud to receive 14 commendations from the panel.

Students attend specialist programs in Physical Education, The Arts, and Italian across the school. Years 5 and 6 students participate in an Electives program to enhance their learning and student voice in learning.

A Year 3-6 BYOD Chromebooks program also highlights the way technology has been embraced to promote engagement in learning.

We are commencing a new strategic planning cycle. We have a strong positive endorsement from our students across all areas of the Attitudes to School Survey. Teams of teachers have attended the Bastow Leading Literacy and Bastow Leading Numeracy courses and this learning and subsequent sharing with all staff has led to some key changes in our teaching of literacy and numeracy in recent years. Last year we introduced three-way conferences to foster student agency and voice across the school.

Enrolment in 2021 will be approximately 260 with multi-age classes at all levels. The proportion of students with English as a second language is “Mid-High”. This reflects the diversity of the school community, which consists of over 30 different nationalities. There continues to be a growing proportion of students from a non-English speaking background.

Students engage with a broad range of extra curricula and enrichment programs in line with their interests and talents. These include camps for Years 3-6, a variety of school and district sports carnivals, music lessons, school performances, Book Week. We also operate a highly respected Kitchen Garden Program.
