Our Statutory Planning team is regularly rated the highest performing peri-urban planning team and ranked in the top 20 planning teams in Victoria, implementing the Surf Coast Planning Scheme which is diverse, and responsive to the variety of land uses that the Shire has to offer.
About the role:
A key focus for the role is to lead an excellent customer focused planning service that is reflective of the unique qualities of the Surf Coast Shire and consistent with the purpose of the Planning and Compliance Department ‘to help people understand and adhere to the planning system and balance varied interests to achieve enhanced outcomes, so that our environment and communities thrive and grow’.
As one of two Coordinators for Statutory Planning this position offers an opportunity to establish yourself in a leadership role, jointly leading the team in the delivery of a wide scope of planning work to our community from bushfire management to managing growth and tourism development to protection of our coastal areas and rural hinterland.
About you
You will be an enthusiastic and motivated planning professional, who will in partnership with the other Coordinator Statutory Planning,
lead a high performing statutory planning team focused on delivering a valued customer service experience to the Surf Coast Community.
Mandatory Requirements (Skills & Experience)
- Tertiary qualification in Town Planning or equivalent with experience in statutory planning
- Ability to work collaboratively and in partnership with the other Coordinator Statutory Planning to manage and lead the team
- Ability to jointly lead the team to deliver pragmatic, consistent and desired outcomes
- Experience in leading the team to deliver a highly customer focused experience with all customers interacting with the Surf Coast Shire Planning Unit
- Experience in leading motivating, managing teams and embedding a defined team culture
- Recognised as a people person with excellent internal and external relationship management and communication skills

- Current Victorian driver’s license
- A current WWCC
- A current Police Check
