The General Counsel requires strong professional leadership and management capabilities and to lead the day to day delivery of strategic legal advice to the Minister, Director-General and other key decision makers. It requires an ability to lead and manage legal specialists to deliver government priorities, effectively support departmental business areas to support quality outcomes and provide excellence in client service delivery. The General Counsel is to provide high level leadership and advice and to work as a trusted advisor in a collaborative manner with executive and non-management internal and external stakeholders on a broad range of complex legal, policy and legislative work and projects.
As an executive, performance will be assessed against four key accountability perspectives: financial, stakeholder and outcome, internal business, and learning and growth.
The position is accountable to the Assistant Director-General, Corporate Services.
Reporting to the position are staff of Legal Services, including the Director Property, Director Commercial and Employment Law, Director Litigation and Administrative Law, Director Commercial Law and Manager, Right to Information and Privacy.
The position requires a person who will take personal responsibility for serving the government of the day and meeting the needs of the people and communities of Queensland. As an executive you will work towards a system of world class service delivery and public sector management.
You will have a record of success as a leader in a large and complex organisation with outstanding leadership ability. You will have extensive experience across the public, private and/or not for profit sector in expert legal service provision relevant to the department's activities and you will have a strong background in strategy, service delivery, and client service. You will have a proven track record as an agent of change in challenging environments and in fostering a confident and capable workforce. You will have a detailed understanding of the legislative, policy and commercial environment in which the department operates.
You must be admitted or immediately capable of admission as a legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of Queensland.
