The Opportunity
The Salvos Assessment Line (SAL) worker provides effective and efficient Emergency Relief assessments, advocacy and referrals and follows up via telephone to clients requesting material assistance from The Salvation Army (TSA). The role also provides administration assistance, answers enquiries from community members, resolves problems, maintains databases, and provides support for the coordination of material assistance distribution within TSA. All interactions and supports are conducted in accordance with the mission and values of TSA, relevant legislations and the rationale and philosophy of the Doorways model.

Essential requirements

- Understanding of and commitment to the mission and values of The Salvation Army.
- A minimum qualification of Certificate IV in a relevant discipline (e.g. Community Services Work) is required.
- High level of written and verbal communication skills, including good empathetic listening skills, excellent verbal communication skills, and the ability to write accurate succinct reports.
- Experience or strong understanding of Emergency Relief service provision in Australia.
- Ability to quickly learn call centre telephone system and related technology.
Proficiency in another language, such as Arabic, Mandarin, Spanish and Russian is highly regarded.
- Understanding of case work practice and structural poverty in Australia is desirable.
