Job Description
As a Radar Modes Lead Engineer, you will lead and manage projects in our RF/Radar team in Advanced Tech, work on Radar engineering design, and manage project proposal efforts. You will lead the successful execution of Radar signal processing, modes, and software function throughout Radar development programs, including weather signal processing, waveform design and implementation, embedded radar software, software architecture, and future multi-mode radar capability development. Working as systems lead, with other technical leads, this role establishes the technical approach and software capabilities for radar prototypes. Candidates should have demonstrated hands-on technical leadership of end-to-end radar signal processing, modes, and software development from concept through integrated prototype demonstration.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Airborne weather radar and advanced weather experience: weather detection, measurement and characterization, weather phenomenology, turbulence detection, predictive windshear, ground-clutter mitigation, attenuation compensation, and other advanced weather capabilities.
- Radar mode development and management: hands‑on development of radar modes from operational needs through mode definition, processing, resource needs, implementation, and integration.
- Radar waveform design, scan strategy, and resource management: design and optimization of radar waveforms, PRFs, bandwidths, timing, ambiguity, Doppler considerations, beam/scan strategies, dwell, revisit/update rates, coverage, and allocation of radar resources across modes.
- Radar signal processing and algorithm development: hands‑on development of range/Doppler processing, detection, CFAR, beamforming,
angle estimation, clutter suppression, tracking, and other advanced radar processing, including implementation and optimization for real‑time radar systems.
- Radar processing hardware requirements: ability to translate waveform, signal-processing, and mode needs intodigital processing requirements (sampling rates, bandwidth, compute, memory, timing, etc. Ability to evaluate processor architectures against overall radar performance and integration requirements.
- Radar modeling, simulation, and data analysis: hands‑on development and use of MATLAB, Python, or similar tools for radar architecture, waveform and algorithm development, performance modeling, and analysis of measured radar data.
- Radar system architecture and implementation: hands‑on experience defining and developing radar system architectures, including radar subsystems, functional allocation, interfaces, data flows, hardware/software partitioning, and the physical hardware and processing needed to realize an integrated radar system.
- Radar system/subsystem prototyping: demonstrated experience taking radar concepts, architectures, modes, waveforms, and algorithms beyond analysis and simulation into functional hardware prototypes or demonstrators.
- Broad and advanced radar development experience:
experience developing new and advanced radar capabilities across multiple applications, modes, frequency bands, radar architectures, or sensing functions, including development and integration of multi‑mode radar systems.
- Airborne avionics development and certification familiarity: familiarity with relevant airborne safety, hardware, software, and certification development processes and standards.
- Phased-array / electronically scanned radar experience: architecture, mode development, beamforming, scan/resource management, and understanding of array/beam characteristics and their impact on radar performance.
