Are you a dynamic and results-driven leader ready to make an impact in healthcare? We are seeking an experienced Healthcare Operations Manager to oversee and optimise the operations of our distributed network of emergency departments. This is a pivotal role responsible for ensuring the smooth delivery of care across multiple locations while maintaining financial accountability and operational excellence.
About Us
Established in 2017, Private Emergency Health Australia (PEHA) is the largest provider of partnered private emergency departments to hospital partners within Australia. Responsible for the day-to-day management of the Emergency Departments and providing a superior level of emergency care to patients, PEHA prides itself on short wait times, expert care, personalised service, and excellent follow-up.
About the Role
Reporting to the General Manager, you will oversee a portfolio of PEHA sites, supporting Practice Managers across five to seven locations, with profit and loss accountability for your portfolio.
You will work closely with Practice Managers, Site Directors and hospital leaders to improve site performance, resolve operational challenges and put PEHA’s strategy into practice. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can balance people, compliance, financial and operational performance, while building strong working relationships across geographically dispersed teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coach and support Practice Managers, building capability and accountability across your sites.
- Monitor operational KPIs and financial performance, identifying opportunities to improve workflows, efficiency and service delivery.
- Build productive relationships with hospital management, nursing leaders and clinical teams.
- Manage doctor costs against budgets and patient activity, working with the Site Director,
Practice Managers and recruitment team to minimise reliance on locums and maintain financially stable roster arrangements.
- Oversee compliance, risk management, incident responses and workplace health and safety.
- Support hospital accreditation requirements, audits and continuous quality improvement.
- Lead and contribute to site and group projects, including implementing new processes and managing change.
- Support the recruitment, performance and retention of your direct reports.
About you
You are an experienced healthcare operations leader who builds trust, follows through and takes a practical approach to solving problems. You are comfortable remotely supporting teams across a distributed network of sites, having constructive conversations and using data to guide decisions.
You will bring:
- At least five years’ experience in healthcare operations management, ideally across multiple sites.
- Tertiary qualifications in Business Administration, Healthcare Management or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience leading and developing teams.
- Strong financial skills, including budgeting, forecasting and performance analysis.
- A sound understanding of healthcare compliance and regulatory requirements, including Medicare.
- Experience delivering process improvements, projects and organisational change.
- Transparent communication, sound judgement and effective conflict management skills.
- Strong organisational skills, accuracy and attention to detail.
You will have the opportunity to influence how services operate across our growing healthcare organisation. Working directly with the General Manager and the PEHA Operations team, you will help develop capable teams, strengthen hospital partnerships and make practical improvements that support patient care.
