Whether your background is in employee relations, HR advisory, workplace relations or employment law, this role is a chance to put your technical skills to work for small and family-owned businesses across Australia.

You’ll give practical, timely advice by phone and in writing on awards, Fair Work obligations and people issues.

Every day you’ll help business owners do the right thing by their teams. You don’t need to know the industry or the award, just how to interpret one.

The organisation is a national not-for-profit association representing around 2,000 independent businesses in grocery, liquor, and timber and hardware. Its workplace advisory service is a core member benefit. It’s run by a small, collaborative team led by an experienced HR Advisory Manager, with in-house Senior Legal Counsel for escalations.

What you'll be doing:

- Running fact-find calls with members on workplace enquiries received through a ticketing system.
- Providing clear written advice, with a summary, next steps and templates where needed.
- Interpreting modern awards and advising on Fair Work Act obligations, including pay, leave, contracts and long service leave.
- Guiding members through performance management, misconduct, redundancy, bullying and harassment, and the risks of unfair dismissal and general protections claims.
- Keeping detailed,

accurate records so any matter can be picked up or escalated.
- Contributing to member resources, including articles, wage tables, templates and short training videos.

What we're looking for:

- Around 3 to 4 years' experience in employee relations, workplace relations, HR advisory or employment law.
- Strong award interpretation skills and a solid working knowledge of the Fair Work Act.
- Experience with procedural fairness, unfair dismissal, general protections and redundancy.
- The ability to steer a call, take notes as you go and turn around concise written advice.
- A practical, business-focused approach, and the confidence to escape early when you're unsure.
- A stable employment history and a collaborative, coachable style.

Outstanding to have (not essential):

- Experience in an advisory service, advice line or member-based organisation.
- Payroll or award-based wage calculation experience.
- Exposure to national or multi-site workforces, or the retail sector.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a pragmatic ER professional who wants to build deep technical expertise.

You’ll have genuine variety, close mentoring and a sustainable workload in a supportive, community-minded team.

Salary is $125,000 plus superannuation (pro rata for 4 days).

You’ll have your own office and onsite parking in Malvern, plus a laptop and mobile phone.
