About the role
We are seeking an experienced Accountant to manage day-to-day finance operations and support accurate reporting across our training and group training activities.
This is a hands-on role covering bookkeeping, payroll, host employer invoicing and month-end reporting. You will work closely with management and operational teams to reconcile payroll costs against client charges, investigate discrepancies and give management a clear view of program costs, cash flow and margins.
Key responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day bookkeeping in Xero, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations and general ledger maintenance.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and intercompany transactions across relevant entities.
- Process or review payroll, including wages, allowances, leave, superannuation, employee entitlements and Single Touch Payroll reporting.
- Reconcile approved timesheets, payroll and host employer invoices. Check pay rates, charge-out rates and employer on-costs, and investigate discrepancies.
- Raise host employer and training invoices, process approved adjustments and credit notes, and follow up outstanding accounts.
- Complete month-end close, including journals, accruals, prepayments and depreciation.
- Prepare year-end workpapers and liaise with external accountants and auditors.
- Improve finance workflows,
documentation and internal controls, and provide guidance to team members on finance processes.
About you
- Around five years of experience in accounting. We welcome applicants with fewer years who can demonstrate relevant hands-on experience.
- Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping or a higher relevant qualification. An accounting degree, CA or CPA qualification, or progress towards one will be highly regarded.
- Solid proficiency in Xero or comparable accounting software. Xero Advisor certification is desirable.
- Experience with Australian payroll, including interpreting award rates and allowances, and applying superannuation and STP requirements.
- Experience with month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations and management reporting. Multi-entity and intercompany accounting experience is desirable.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to investigate discrepancies, manage competing deadlines and explain financial information clearly.
- Experience in an RTO, Group Training Organisation (GTO), labour hire business or funded training program will be highly regarded. Exposure to construction or trades is also valued.
- Australian working rights and the ability to provide a current National Police Check.
