WHS Advisor – Operations & Safety Systems
WHS Advisor – Operations & Safety Systems
Fixed term to June 2027 | $86,800–$100,000 + super | Armadale
Prefer getting out on site to sitting behind a desk all day? But also enjoy improving how things work?
This could be a good fit.
At the City of Armadale, no two days in safety look quite the same. Our workforce covers everything from parks, roads and maintenance crews to community facilities and office-based teams. With that variety comes a wide range of risks, people and opportunities to make a difference.
We're looking for a practical WHS generalist who enjoys working with people, takes initiative and is just as comfortable on site as they are developing processes and improving systems.
We're also implementing a new WHS system, so you'll have the chance to be involved in improving how we manage safety information and processes across the City.
This isn't a role where everything is already mapped out. We're looking for someone adaptable, organised and confident enough to take ownership, work through challenges and help us make things better.
What you'll be doing
Working alongside our WHS Lead, you'll support managers, supervisors and employees across a diverse range of work environments.
Your day might involve:
- Visiting an operational worksite to help a team identify and manage safety risks.
- Supporting an incident investigation and working with supervisors on practical corrective actions.
- Reviewing a WHS procedure or developing a process that makes safety requirements easier to follow.
- Helping prepare for the implementation of our new WHS system.
- Delivering a toolbox talk, supporting Health and Safety Representatives or providing advice to a manager.
You’ll have plenty of variety and the opportunity to contribute to both day-to-day safety and longer-term improvements.
What we're looking for
You don't need to have worked in local government before.
We're interested in people who have practical WHS experience, enjoy working with others and can apply their knowledge across different environments.
Ideally, you’ll bring:
- Practical experience in a WHS, Safety Advisor or similar role.
- A good understanding of WA WHS legislation and risk management.
- Experience supporting incident investigations, workplace inspections and safety improvements.
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to work with everyone from operational crews to senior leaders.
- Good attention to detail, particularly when developing procedures, documentation and processes.
- Confidence using digital systems and an interest in improving how things work.
- The initiative to manage your own workload and adapt when priorities change.
Experience in construction, infrastructure, local government, facilities, logistics or other operational environments would be valuable.
Above all, we're looking for someone who can build relationships, exercise sound judgement and turn safety requirements into practical solutions.
Why join Armadale?
Variety,
prospect and the chance to make a real contribution.
The City of Armadale is one of Western Australia's fastest-growing local governments, with a workforce delivering a broad range of services to our community.
There's plenty happening across the organisation, and our WHS function continues to evolve.
You’ll have the opportunity to work with different teams, experience a wide range of operational environments and contribute to improving our safety systems and processes.
You’ll also be joining a team that values initiative, collaboration and finding practical solutions.
We offer
- Flexible working arrangements– including compressed working weeks (nine-day fortnight or 19-day month) and working from home where operationally supported.
- Up to 15% employer superannuation– through the City's contribution matching arrangements.
- Free Armadale Fitness and Aquatic Centre membership– including gym, pools, sauna and group fitness classes.
- 17.5% annual leave loadingand access to the City's leave arrangements.
- Employee wellbeing initiatives and confidential Employee Assistance Program support.
- Opportunities to broaden your experience across a diverse operational environment.
A fixed-term opportunity that offers plenty of experience
This position is available until June 2027 to provide parental leave cover.
It could suit someone between contracts, returning to the workforce, or looking for an opportunity to broaden their WHS experience across different operational areas.
While the appointment is fixed term, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to work that will make a difference beyond the life of the contract.
