This is a full-time contract role, working Mondays to Fridays.

About the role The Groundskeeper / Gardener is responsible for maintaining St Andrew’s Grammar School grounds, gardens and outdoor facilities to a high standard, supporting a safe, attractive and functional environment for students, staff and visitors. Working with the Facilities Team, contractors and service providers, this role contributes to the ongoing presentation, maintenance and safety of the campus while upholding the School’s values, policies and child safety commitments.

Key responsibilities

- Maintain garden beds, lawns, pathways and landscaped areas.
- Undertake weeding, pruning, mulching, sweeping, whipper snipping and general garden care.
- Mow designated grounds using ride-on and push mowers.
- Apply fertilisers and undertake spraying activities in accordance with safe work practices.
- Remove rubbish and maintain a clean, tidy school workplace.
- Monitor and maintain reticulation and irrigation systems.
- Perform minor repairs and report grounds, infrastructure and maintenance issues to the Facilities Manager.
- Work cooperatively with gardening contractors and other external service providers.
- Liaise with the Facilities Manager regarding pest control activities.
- Assist contractors to ensure works are completed efficiently and safely.
- Support the Maintenance Team with event set-up and pack-down activities.




- Follow safe operating procedures when using machinery, tools and chemicals.
- Comply with Work Health and Safety requirements, school policies and child protection legislation.
- Report hazards, incidents, injuries, near misses and child safety concerns promptly.
- Participate in emergency management and evacuation procedures.
- Undertake other reasonable duties consistent with the scope and level of the position.

What we're looking for

- Demonstrated experience in gardening, grounds maintenance, landscaping or a related field.
- Ability to safely operate gardening equipment and machinery, including ride-on and push mowers.
- Sound understanding of irrigation systems and basic maintenance practices.
- Ability to work independently, show initiative and contribute effectively as part of a team.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Commitment to supporting the School’s values.
- Current Working with Children Check, National Police Clearance and evidence of the right to work in Australia.

Desirable
- Experience working in a school, education or similar community environment.
- Chemical handling certification, such as ACUP or equivalent.
- Basic maintenance or trade-related skills and First Aid certification.
