Senior / Lead SMP Designer – Mineral Processing

Overview

Opportunities are available for experienced Senior and Lead SMP Designers to join established engineering consultancies in Perth, supporting a strong pipeline of mining and mineral processing projects.

Working across studies and detailed design, these positions will contribute to the development of mechanical, structural and piping designs for a range of mineral processing facilities.

Responsibilities

- Produce and review 3D models, general arrangements, layouts and detailed design drawings.

- Develop mechanical, structural and piping designs across mineral processing facilities.

- Prepare equipment layouts, fabrication drawings, piping arrangements and associated design documentation.

- Work closely with engineers and other design disciplines to ensure coordinated project deliverables.

- Ensure designs comply with project specifications, relevant standards and client requirements.

- Participate in design reviews, model reviews and clash detection activities.

- Provide technical guidance and support to junior designers, with Lead-level positions responsible for coordinating design teams.

- Deliver design packages within agreed project schedules and budgets.

Candidate Experience

- Relevant tertiary or technical qualification in Mechanical,



Structural or related engineering disciplines, or equivalent industry experience.

- Demonstrated experience as an SMP Designer within mining, mineral processing or related industries.

- Experience working across engineering studies and detailed design projects.

- Robust proficiency in 3D design software, ideally MicroStation and/or Bentley applications.

- Experience producing mechanical, structural and piping design deliverables for process plants.

- Understanding of general arrangements, equipment layouts, piping systems and fabrication requirements.

- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.

- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.

- Previous experience mentoring or coordinating design teams desirable for Lead-level positions.
