Launch your engineering career with Australia’s leading integrator of control, monitoring and protection solutions for engines and machinery. Start in January 2027.
Are you a recent Mechatronics, Mechanical or Electronic Engineering graduate who wants to see your work leave the screen and run on real machines, in mines, on farms, at sea and in emergency services applications? Our ongoing growth has created an exciting opportunity for a curious, intelligent and genuinely collaborative graduate engineer to join our close-knit engineering team in Port Melbourne.
From day one you’ll work on real customer projects, learn industry-leading technology, and be supported by an experienced team who love sharing what they know.
About the Company
www.macquarrie.com.au
Based in Port Melbourne, Macquarrie is at its core a leading-edge, technology-focused engineering business. We design and build standard and custom control, monitoring and protection solutions for everything from simple equipment to complex machinery and engines, with automation and remote control at the heart of what we do.
Our solutions include touch screen displays, programmable I/O devices, CAN instrumentation, custom panels, automation controllers, multiplexed systems and IoT telemetry.
We have been the exclusive Australian and New Zealand distributor of Murphy by Enovation Controls (www.enovationcontrols.com) for 50 years, and we are also the exclusive Australian and New Zealand distributor of Senquip IoT devices.
We work across Industrial, Agriculture, Mining, Marine, Defence and Emergency Services, all industries with a strong and growing need for what we do. Our solutions are built to withstand the rugged conditions of Australia and New Zealand, and our after-sales service and technical support are second to none.
With 70+ years in operation, we’re still family owned and operated, now by the third generation of the Macquarrie family. We’re a close-knit team that values teamwork, collaboration, innovation and giving our best every day.
About the Role
This is a hands-on graduate role with real variety. You’ll combine engineering design, programming and hardware with direct customer contact, taking projects from the first conversation through to a working solution in the field.
Working closely with and reporting to our Head of Engineering (and indirectly to our Head of Sales), you’ll learn our products and software quickly, take on your own projects as your skills grow, and build relationships with customers across a wide range of industries, including on-site visits.
We’re looking for someone who learns fast and loves to. You’ll be a clear communicator, quick on your feet, happy to get your hands dirty, and comfortable asking questions and workshopping ideas with the team. Being a genuine team player is a must.
We also want someone who embraces AI tools to work smarter, whether that’s speeding up documentation, researching technical questions or exploring ideas, while building and backing their own core engineering skills and judgement. AI should make you a better engineer, not do the engineering for you.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage customer projects from start to finish, including client engagement, scoping, design, programming, scheduling manufacture, testing, on-site commissioning, delivery and after-sales support.
- Build long-term, valued relationships with clients and colleagues. We always aim to exceed expectations.
- Prioritise and schedule your workload to meet customer needs and requests from your manager.
- Innovate and develop new ideas, processes and products, including workshopping R&D; projects with the engineering team.
- Respond to daily technical and sales enquiries by phone and email, talking confidently with customers, preparing and following up quotes, and converting them into sales.
- Be proactive in approaching team members for input and to workshop ideas, especially while you learn the ropes.
- Rapidly develop product and software knowledge across Murphy by Enovation Controls, Axiomatic and Senquip Telemetry products, along with a range of other components.
- Provide after-sales support and technical back-up as required.
- Work closely with manufacturing to plan and prioritise projects so that lead times are met.
- Deliver product training to customers once you’ve built the relevant experience.
Skills & Experience
- Degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical or Electronic Engineering (recent graduates strongly encouraged to apply).
- Strong team player who thrives in a close-knit, collaborative environment (essential).
- Excellent verbal and written communication, with the confidence to build rapport with customers and colleagues.
- A genuine love of learning and the ability to pick up new technology quickly.
- Practical, effective use of AI tools to enhance productivity and quality, alongside solid core engineering skills.
- Programming skills in C, C++ or similar (CRANK or Qt experience a bonus).
- Understanding of electrical circuits and design.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or equivalent CAD software, and in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- A hands-on, practical approach to engineering and project work.
- Interest in diesel engines, CAN controls, automation or IoT (experience through uni projects, internships or Formula SAE-style teams is a plus).
- Interest in the commercial side of engineering, including customer relationships, business development and project profitability.
If you’re ready to learn rapid, build real solutions and grow your career in a high-performing team that works collaboratively, we’d love to hear from you. Apply now.
