Role Overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic, hands-on Apprentice Boat Builder to join our Henderson team. This structured apprenticeship combines full-time, practical on-the-job training at our marine facility including Weld School and Fabrication Training. This training complements block training delivered through South Metropolitan TAFE.

Upon successful completion, you will graduate with a MEM31925 Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade (AE93 Boat Building).

Key Responsibilities

Under the guidance of qualified marine tradespeople you will:

- Assist in building, fabricating, modifying, and repairing marine-grade aluminium hulls, decks, superstructures, and internal fit-outs.
- Perform cutting, shaping, forming, and fitting of aluminium plate, sheet, and extruded sections.
- Learn and apply marine welding techniques (MIG/TIG) and mechanical fastening for structural refit projects.
- Read and interpret workshop fabrication drawings, loftings, and technical specifications.
- Use specialized workshop machinery, power tools, precision measuring tools, and aluminium prep equipment.
- Assist with vessel haul-outs, dry-dock setups, and hull surface preparation.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop setting in compliance with WHS procedures.
- Lean all aspects of a vessel, from engineering, electronics to fitout.

What We Are Looking For

- Strong interest in marine trade, boat building, and vessel maintenance.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and comfort using hand/power tools.
- Solid communication skills and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work well in a team environment and follow safety protocols.
- High school completion (Year 10 minimum; Year 12 or relevant Pre-Apprenticeship preferred).
- Current C-Class Driver’s License (or reliable transport to Henderson).
