About the Role
We are seeking an adaptable, forward-thinking Risk Specialist to join a premier Australian financial services institution. Embedded directly within the L1 Data & AI team, you will play a central role in operationalising the enterprise Risk Management Framework across advanced analytics, privacy, machine learning, and emerging AI technologies. Working closely with data scientists, engineers, risk leaders, and cross-functional legal/privacy teams, you will help strike the balance between rapid innovation and regulatory discipline.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and evolve artefacts, registers, control libraries, and maturity roadmaps for the Data, Privacy & AI Risk Framework.
- Coordinate risk and control assessments (RCSAs), map controls to obligations, conduct validation testing, and track remediation plans through to closure.
- Maintain and operate the Data & AI Risk Dashboard, tracking Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), tolerances, and preparing executive reporting packs for leadership and Board risk committees.
- Execute control testing procedures, track findings, and support AI scenario analysis and stress-testing exercises.
- Track emerging regulatory developments and industry practices across AI and data privacy; manage incident reviews and root-cause analyses.
- Act as a trusted risk partner to the business, creating practical guidance and raising risk awareness across technical teams.
Skills & Experience Required
- 5+ years of experience in risk management, compliance, audit, assurance, or controls within a complex, highly regulated environment (Financial Services, Superannuation, or Banking preferred).
- Strong working knowledge of core risk principles: RCSA, control design/testing, risk profiling, issue/incident remediation, and KRI reporting.
- Solid exposure or demonstrable interest in data risk,
privacy regulations, technology controls, or artificial intelligence governance.
- Tertiary qualification in Risk Management, Business, Law, IT, Data Analytics, Cyber Security, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
- Exceptional analytical capabilities, comfortable interrogating metrics, building presentation packs, and translating technical topics into clear business risk insights.
- Excellent communication, workshop coordination, and stakeholder engagement skills.
What's On Offer
- Hybrid, flexible working arrangements balancing working from home and up-to-date CBD office facilities.
- Direct exposure to cutting-edge AI governance models and high-profile enterprise data strategies.
- A supportive, values-led culture committed to professional development and long-term career growth.
