Trades Assistant - MIG Welder & Maintenance

About the Role

We are seeking a reliable and hands-on Trades Assistant with MIG welding experience to support daily plant operations. This role involves a combination of welding, mechanical maintenance, equipment repairs, and general labouring duties to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the site. Approximately 80% of the role involves MIG welding, with the remaining 20% focused on maintenance, repairs, and general plant support.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform maintenance and repairs on conveyor systems, including the replacement of rollers and bearings.
- Carry out minor fabrication and repair work using MIG welding techniques.
- Assist with the maintenance and monitoring of the bagging system.
- Complete general plant maintenance, housekeeping, and labouring duties.
- Follow daily maintenance schedules, checklists, and safety procedures.
- Identify and report equipment faults, maintenance issues, and repair requirements.
- Work closely with site personnel to ensure maintenance tasks are completed efficiently.
- Participate in training and handover activities with the current employee to ensure a smooth transition.





Skills & Experience

- Previous experience in a Trades Assistant, Maintenance Assistant, or similar industrial role.
- Demonstrated MIG welding experience.
- Mechanically minded with knowledge of conveyor systems, rollers, bearings, and general plant equipment.
- Ability to perform basic maintenance and repair tasks independently.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and protected work practices.
- Reliable, practical, and proactive approach to work.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Pay Rates

- Ordinary Time (OT): $43.48 per hour
- Time & Half (T&H;): $65.21 per hour
- Double Time (DT): $86.95 per hour
